Chatbot or customer service agent, my instinct tells me people prefer to deal with people but in this very fast paced digital world the key issue is response time.  

Here at BBS, we provide customer service teams for a number of clients and we get asked frequently - are you a real person?

Whether it's a chatbot or a customer service agent, we want a response / answer quickly!
